Marco Asensio gave an interview with Real Madrid TV in which he talked about his signing for the Bernabéu club and how his mother foresaw he would be a Madrid player in a chance meeting with Florentino Pérez.
Real Madrid signing: “That winter my agent told me that Real Madrid were interested in me. Several clubs were calling and it was a bit hectic but one day before a game Florentino called me and said I was going to be a Real Madrid player. It all happened in a single day: we went to Madrid, I signed the contract, we were shown round the Bernabéu and Valdebebas and then we went back to Mallorca to finish the season. It all happened very quickly and it was intense, but I felt a huge sense of satisfaction.”
Rafa Nadal: “That story is true. He called Florentino and told him to snap me up.”
Asensio: "My mum told Florentino that I'd be a Real Madrid player"
A mother’s intuition: “One day we were on a day out as a family we were walking around the port area and Florentino’s boat was there. My mum recognized him and she asked if we could have a photo taken with him and she told him that one day I’d play for Real Madrid. It’s one of those things, coincidences in life, but that’s how it worked out and he remembers that day as well.”
Zidane: “Zidane was my idol when I was younger, I had a poster of him in my room. I am so proud to have him as my coach now because I can learn things from him and being under his guidance is just incredible.”
"I'm named after Marco van Basten"
Marco: “My parents have told me that my dad chose the first name of their kids and my mum chose the second one. She’s Dutch and she named me after Marco van Basten.”
Real Madrid beginnings: “One day during pre-season the coach talked to me and he told me that he wanted me to stay at the club instead of going back to Espanyol and that I would play in the European Supercup. It was the perfect start: in the first 11, with the title and a goal. And then I scored on every one of my debuts in all competitions after that.”
