Uruguay centre-forward Edinson Cavani could miss Wednesday's friendly against Italy after picking up an injury during last night's meeting with the Republic of Ireland, coach Óscar Tabárez said on Monday.
Cavani in the wars in Dublin
The Paris Saint-Germain striker went off with an unspecified muscular injury just 11 minutes into last night’s 3-1 friendly defeat to the Republic of Ireland at Dublin's Aviva Stadium. Cavani was on the receiving end of a challenge by debutant Kevin Long shortly before he was substituted.
Tabárez explained after the game: “He has to undergo tests to find out exactly what the problem is but for me it seems difficult for him to play against Italy,' said after Uruguay's 3-1 defeat to Ireland.
Cavani, 30, was voted French players' player of the year thanks to his 49 goals in all competitions for PSG during the 2016-2017 season.
