Pepe will join Paris Saint Germain, according to ex-Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello on the Sky Sports programme ‘Calciomercato – L’Originale’.

Pepe to PSG decided in Cardiff - Capello

The Portuguese defender has already confirmed that he will leave Real Madrid, ten years after arriving from FC Porto for €30m.

According to Capello, “Pepe will go to PSG, 100 percent. It was decided in a hotel in Cardiff.”

This information does not corroborate what Pepe himself has said. The 34 year old told ‘El Partidazo de Cope’ on Monday that he had not yet signed an agreement with another club, but revealed that he had received offers from England.

Pepe will '100%' join PSG, says Fabio Capello

Pepe is currently with the Portugal squad, preparing for the World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Friday. He wrote an open letter to Real Madrid fans, to thank them for their support during his time at the club.

It is not the first time that PSG have come calling for Pepe. In 2012, with José Mourinho in the dugout at the Bernabéu, the French club made strong overtures for the player, as they sought to build a project under Carlo Ancelotti. On that occasion, the €25m offer on the table was not enough to convince Florentino Pérez to sell, with the Real Madrid president unwilling to go below €30m.

Morata good, but not great

Capello was also asked about Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who is on the agenda of AC Milan, the club that Capello managed with great success in the 1990s.

The Italian considers Morata to be a fine goalscorer with a lot of potential to improve, but does not see him as a top, top player.

“He is a player who knows how to score… he can improve, he knows where the goal is, but the top players are, for me, distinct. There aren’t many about at the moment.”
