The Madrid Council have started works on the surrounding area to make it more fan-friendly as Atletico Madrid try to get works finished for the start of the new season.

The Madrid City Council have started the development of the area surrounding the Wanda Metropolitano, limiting access on some routes around the area and adjusting lanes in some instances to help ease traffic issues. Atletico are reportedly keen to host cup games in their new stadium in an effort to turn the ground into the Wembley of Madrid.

The council recommends avoiding Arcentales Avenue until the 30th of September, due to efforts to get Atletico's new stadium ready for the new season. There will be no road stoppages but there will be traffic jams due to the works. The council offers alternatives on calle Fuente Carrantona and Doctor García Tapia Avenue out to the M-40 for vehicles heading south. For those travelling north, the recommended route is to take Canillejas to Vicálvaro, Calle Alcalá and then the A-2.

There has been skepticism surrounding the new stadium and its development and whether work would get done in time to start the new season but Enrique Cerezo has assured that it would be ready. Miguel Angel Gil Marin also said, "The team will be playing there from September. It will be done in time. There is no Plan B." The latest developments prove the works are progressing with a little under three months to complete the job.
