An online petition has been launched calling on the Spanish tax office to waive the 14.8m euros Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly owes - so that he'll stay at Real Madrid.
Prosecutors last week accused Cristiano of evading taxes on image rights income, leading him to reportedly make the "irreversible decision" to leave Spain.
"We want Cristiano to stay, we don't care about the money"
The petition, which was created on the website change.org under the motto "We want Cristiano to stay, we don't care about the money", had at the time of writing been signed by 429 people.
"He's innocent", "It's all a lie, he doesn't owe the tax office anything" and "I don't want CR7 to go" are among the reasons given by those who have supported it.
Cristiano Ronaldo petition comes in for criticism
The initiative has received heavy criticism from fellow change.org users and on social media, with one commenter telling its signatories they "should be ashamed".
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are among the clubs being linked with the 32-year-old, who is currently at the Confederations Cup with Portugal.
