Mohamed Salah's departure to Liverpool has left AS Roma and their new sporting director, Monchi, with a vacany they need to fill in their squad. The former Sevilla director is on the hunt for a suitable replacement and he has his eyes on LaLiga, and Bilbao in particular, as they prepare for a tilt at Serie A and the Champions League next season.
Salah's natural replacement would be El Shaarawy, who has been with Roma for two years and could slot in if he is to show the best version of himself. The technical staff are looking at other options though.
Athletic Bilbao are tough negotiators
According to Gazzetta dello sport, one of the candidates is Athletic Bilbao attacker Iñaki Williams. He can excel in Di Francesco's 4-3-3 system and is a player with great speed and who could still improve at just 23 years of age. The problem is Athletic Club might be unwilling to sell one of their best players, and Roma might be forced to pay his release clause, provided Iñaki was interested in leaving.
Another option is Gerard Deulofeu. Barcelona bought the player recently after spells with Everton and AC Milan but there is still doubt that he will be in their first team next year. In the likely event that he is not, Monchi could be ready to swoop. Lucas Moura is another option on Monchi's list. Porto's 'Tecatito' Corona has also been mentioned but remains behind the first three names mentioned as possible arrivals.
