Real Madrid won't sign striker to replace Álvaro Morata

Chelsea and Madrid have agreed terms for Morata's transfer, yet Zinedine Zidane feels he has enough depth at centre-forward.

Real Madrid have a clear summer transfer plan at centre-forward: Los Blancos won't be signing anyone, despite the fact that the club have agreed terms with Chelsea for Álvaro Morata.

The Spain international, 24, is after more regular football than last season - when he played second fiddle to Karim Benzema - and thus asked to leave the Bernabéu.

Zidane confident over striking depth in squad

Madrid would have preferred Morata to stay for one more campaign, but will not turn to the transfer market to replace him.

Coach Zinedine Zidane feels he'd have sufficient striking resources even without Morata, with Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo (who is evolving more and more into an out-and-out No.9) his primary options, and Borja Mayoral behind them.

What is more, the Frenchman has to share out game time among the many other attacking players at his disposal: Gareth Bale, Lucas Vázquez, Marco Asensio, Isco...

Mayoral in Real plans but concerned over role

Mayoral has been told he is in Real's plans for 2017/18. However, having made just 21 appearances on loan at VfL Wolfsburg last term, he is reluctant to endure another year of sporadic opportunities, and is set for talks with Zidane when he joins up with the side's pre-season camp in LA on Friday.

Morata's departure will facilitate a far greater role for Mayoral, and end the possibility of a loan move to another LaLiga club.
