The XXXVIII Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu will recreate the 1957 European Cup final when Real Madrid will host Serie A side Fiorentina in the Spanish capital. The game is scheduled to take place in August 23 at 22:45 CET.
The 1957 final was the first time that a team won the tournament playing in their own stadium with goals from Alfredo di Stéfano and Paco Gento leading Madrid to a 2-0 victory over La Viola to lift their second European Cup after winning the inaugural competition the season before.
The game was Fiorentina’s only European Cup final appearance to date. The Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu was first staged in 1979 and Madrid have won their own mini-tournament on 26 occasions since then. Last season Madrid hosted Stade Reims in a re-run of the 1956 European Cup final with the hosts winning 5-3. The last time Madrid were beaten in the Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu was in 2004 by Mexican side Pumas.
