Yerry Mina pulled his shirt over his head and fought off tears as he left the pitch. In the 39th minute of the Copa Libertadores match between Palmeiras and Barcelona (of Ecuador), Mina landed awkwardly after challenging for an aerial ball.
Yerry Mina injury could impact Barcelona
Globoesporte reported, following contact with the Palmeiras medical staff, that the towering Colombian could have suffered a fracture to his left foot. Mina will undergo further tests on Thursday to determine the severity of his injury.
The injury may have implications for Barcelona, who appeared likely to add Mina to their defensive ranks. The Catalan club have a 'first-refusal agreement' with Palmeiras over Mina, starting at €9m in 2017, rising to €10m in 2018, and €12m in 2019.
Iñigo Martínez deemed too pricey
Barça rejected the chance to sign Real Sociedad's Iñigo Martínez this week, ostensibly because the Azulgrana wanted to wait to secure Mina.
With Palmeiras knocked out of the Libertadores by the Ecuadorian Barcelona, Mina would have been free to move to LaLiga this month.
