The friendly match between Leganés and Atlético Madrid on Saturday morning provided plenty for Diego Simeone to think about ahead of the new season. Augusto featured at centre half, Juan Moreno scored, and Luciano Vietto played with intensity. Yet the most important moment came when Víctor Mollejo took to the pitch with ten minutes remaining. The 16-year-old, born on the 21st January 2001, wore the ‘35’ shirt that Fernando Torres graced in years gone by.
Mollejo makes Atlético history
Mollejo is the first footballer born in the 21st century (which began on the 1st January 2001) to play for Atlético Madrid. It may not have been in a competitive match, but it still feels historic.
The youngster had an opportunity to take a shot following a diagonal pass by Ángel Correa, but he eventually lost the ball after trying to dribble in to the area.
Moise Kean impressed for Juve
Moise Kean, born in 2000, made his Serie A debut for Juventus last season in a match against Pescara. Kean went on to debut in the Champions League, and also registered his first league goal in a match against Bologna.
