Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted furiously to the Appeals Committee’s decision to uphold his five-match ban.
Ronaldo banned for pushing a referee
The Portuguese received a one-match ban for two yellow cards incurred during the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday, when Madrid ran out 1-3 winners at Camp Nou. The first booking was for removing his shirt after celebrating a goal, and the second for simulation.
In response to the second yellow card, Ronaldo shoved the referee, De Burgos Bengoetxea. For this reaction, he has been given a further four-match ban.
Madrid man claims persecution
“Impossible to keep quiet in this situation. Five matches!” he wrote on his Instagram account.
“It [the ban] seems exaggerated and ridiculous. This is called persecution!”
He accompanied this message with a picture of the referee showing him a red card.
Real Madrid fans are planning to protest against Ronaldo’s punishment at the Benabéu this evening with a Pañolado, the en-mass waving of white hankies. José María Sánchez Martínez will be the man in the middle on Wednesday night.
