Eight Castilla players registered for Champions League

The squads for the 2017/18 Champions League group stage were revealed on Monday, with holders Real Madrid naming the maximum 25 players on their 'List A' and a further eight on their 'List B'.

Two notable 'List A' inclusions are the Castilla men José León and Franchu. The former, who spent 2016/17 on loan at lower-league side Cultural Leonesa, is a central defender and the captain of Real's 'B' team, while Franchu is a winger who was a stand-out performer for Guti's Under-19s last season.

Six other Castilla players are on Los Blancos' 'List B': Luca Zidane, Álvaro Tejero, Luis Miguel Quezada, Manu Hernando, Óscar Rodríguez and Dani Gómez.

Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo back in Madrid

Real Madrid's Monday training session saw the return of Marcelo from international duty. The left-back featured for the full 90 minutes in Brazil's 2-0 World Cup 2018 victory over Ecuador last week, but is to play no part for the already-qualified Seleçao against Colombia tonight.

Meanwhile, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined training on Tuesday, having helped the European champions to World Cup qualifying wins over the Faroe Islands and Hungary, scoring a hat-trick against the former.

LaLiga week 7 schedule released

LaLiga has confirmed the kick-off dates and times for week 7 of the 2017/18 league season, which is to be played from Friday 29 September to Sunday 1 October. Real Madrid host Espanyol at the Bernabéu on the Sunday at 20:45 CEST.

Real Madrid's squad the most valuable

Real Madrid's first-team squad remains the most valuable around, according to football statistics specialists Transfermarkt.com, who rate the group's total worth at 743.8 million euros. Barcelona are second on 706.5m, while Paris Saint-Germain are back in eighth on 521.15m.

Real bag ECA top-club accolade again

Real Madrid have been named European Club of the Year by the European Club Association (ECA) for the second successive season, following a campaign in which Zinedine Zidane's men won their first Spanish championship since 2012 and retained their Champions League title.
