Muriel: "Madrid seem invincible but I know we can beat them"

El delantero colombiano del Sevilla Luis Muriel desafió al Real Madrid y reveló que su próximo gol lo celebrará imitando que toca un acordeón, su pasión.

Sevilla's Colombian striker is confident that the Andalucians can take a result from their visit to the Bernabéu on 10 December.

Luis Muriel spoke about his objectives for the season in an interview with ExtraTime this week: "As soon as Sevilla called I was in no doubt. They are a team who are doing well in Spain and have made a name for themselves in Europe. It's a great place for me to continue my own development and the team is among the five or six best on the continent".

Muriel cited compatriot and former Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca as his main reference: "Carlos did really well during his time with Sevilla, he won the Europa League twice. But every player has to write their own story. The money invested in me? Of course it's a huge motivation for me". The 26-year-old believes he will fare even better in LaLiga than he did during his spell in Italy where he spent time at Udinese, Lecce and Sampdoria: "In Serie A, I got used to finding spaces where they weren't any. In Spanish football there are a lot of spaces so I will be able to exploit my characteristics, like I did when I was on loan at Granada in 2010. But back then I was still only young and I made a lot of mistakes".

Ambition with Sevilla

Sevilla were scheduled to meet Real Madrid at the Bernabéu in Week 15 but that game will be played at a later date because of Madrid's involvement at the Club World Cup. Muriel feels Sevilla have sufficient quality to beat Zidane's team: "We want to continue being one of the top four or five teams in LaLiga and strengthen our name in Europe. We have to get through the group stage in the Champions League and see what happens after that. Madrid have looked invincible during the past few years but I am convinced that we can beat them. And the same goes for Barcelona. They are no longer the kind of team who you feel you have already lost to even before you've played them. If you do things well, it's possible to beat them", he said.

Muriel plans accordion celebration

The Colombian ended by explaining how he will celebrate his next goal for Sevilla: "I'll imitate playing the accordion. I've been leaning how to play it for the past two years. It's the kind of music I used to hear back home when I was a kid and I like the sound a lot".
