Alavés confirm Gianni De Biasi as new first team coach

El Deportivo Alavés anuncia a De Biasi a menos de 24 horas de jugar ante el Real Madrid.

Deportivo Alavés

The 61 year old Italian was officially confirmed by the Basque club but will not be on the bench for the LaLiga clash against Real Madrid at Mendizorroza.

As predicted Alavés have confirmed the club's successor to Luis Zubeldía with Gianni de Biasi joining the struggling Basque side as first team coach.

Zubeldía fired at weekend after poor start to season

On Sunday, Argentine Zubeldía was fired just two months into his tenure at the Basque club, who are yet to pick up a Primera División point this season.

De Biasi, who stepped down as coach of the Albania national team in June after six years in the position.

Gianni De Biasi

In his time as Albania boss, the Italian led the country to qualification for Euro 2016 - its first ever appearance at the finals of a major tournament.

The 61-year-old, whose former clubs include Modena, Brescia and Torino, has previously coached in Spain, having had a stint at Levante in the 2007/08 season.

De Biasi set to be in Mendizorroza stands for Real Madrid visit

He is set to sign a contract until the summer with the option of another year, and is expected to be in the stands for Saturday's home LaLiga clash with Real Madrid.

Caretaker Javi Cabello, who was in the dugout for Wednesday's defeat at Deportivo La Coruña, will take charge of the first team against Madrid.
