Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero has been involved in a car accident in Amsterdam, with the Premier League club's medical staff to confirm the extent of his injuries after examining him today.
Agüero confirms to Argentine radio that he has a broken rib
Agüero confirmed that suffered broken ribs when the taxi in which he was travelling collided with a pole as he headed to the Dutch capital's airport on Thursday.
Speaking to Radio Metro de Argentina from hospital, Agüero said: "The taxi driver did not see the curve and he skidded. When he skidded, we hit the pole. I broke a rib and now I'm resting. It hurts a lot. I'll be discharged shortly."
Guardiola has not spoken with Agüero
Man City manager Pep Guardiola comfirmed to the press on Friday afternoon that "Agüero has had an accident in Amsterdam and he will be back after that. I am not a doctor. He will come back and recover ASAP."
Asked whether he had spoke to his striker, the Spaniard responded: "No not yet . I have been preparing training. I will speak to him today. The first impression is he has broken his rib."
Guardiola did not appear to be irritated that his striker had chosen to leave the country on his day off.
"Day off is to be happy. I am a trainer who doesn’t want to train every day because they need to rest, mentally and physically."
The 29-year-old Argentina international, who played in City's Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, had been attending a concert by Colombian singer Maluma.
The former Independiente and Atlético Madrid star is said to have been wearing a seatbelt, in doing so avoiding more significant harm in the crash.
He is likely to face around two months on the sidelines, ruling him out of Argentina's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Peru in October.
Independiente, the Buenos Aires-based club where Agüero started his career, on Friday tweeted a message of support for the player, writing: "Sending you strength and wishing you a speedy recovery @aguerosergiokun!
"Everyone at Independiente is with you in this difficult moment."
