The PSG striker spoke about the spat over penalty taking at the club and said that it's up to Unai Emery to decide on the matter.

Edinson Cavani has spoken about his argument with Neymar over penalty taking duties at PSG and opined that “we don’t need to all be friends, what we need to do is to be professionals.”

Speaking to French broadcaster SFR ahead of PSG’s Champions League game against Anderlecht, the Uruguay international was asked about the highly publicized spat with the Brazilian over who should take a spot kick against Lyon. “We have to look at what is best for the team. It’s up to the coach to decide. It’s because of this that we have to find a solution and the coach should do that. For us the most important thing is the team. If the coach makes a decision, we’ll respect it.”

Emery: "If Cavani takes the first, Neymar takes the second"

Pressed on the subject, Cavani admitted that he was unaware of any movement on the issue by PSG boss Unai Emery. In September, a conciliatory agreement appeared to have been reached with Emery saying: “If Cavani takes the first, Neymar takes the next one.”

Neymar moved to defuse the situation by apologising to the squad and burying the hatchet with Cavani after the Lyon incident.

However, reports in Spanish daily El País suggested that Cavani had been offered an improved contract to allow Neymar to take preference on penalty taking. The pair had previously argued over who should take a spot kick against Saint Etienne and Cavani went on to explain his views on the matter.

Cavani: "We don't need to be like a big family"

We don’t all need to be friends, to be like a big family. What we have to do is act like professionals on the pitch. For that to happen, above all, it’s necessary to respect your teammates and give 100 percent.”
