Karim Benzema is not going to leave Real Madrid in the near future. The striker’s agent, Karim Djaziri, has put an abrupt stop to rumours surrounding Arsenal’s interest in Benzema. Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Real Madrid’s No.9, which led sections of the English press to speculate that he would try to sign him.
Benzema's agent reaffirms his desire to stay at Madrid
Djaziri has clarified the situation: “Benzema is very happy at Real Madrid. He has just signed an extended contract until 2021 and he has no intention of leaving,” he told Sky Sports News.
Benzema is under the microscope at Real Madrid. The 29-year-old spent a month on the sideline after picking up an injury against Levante in the third matchday. In total, he has accumulated 596 minutes across all competitions (83 in the UEFA Super Cup, 148 in the Spanish Super Cup, 289 in LaLiga, and 76 in the Champions League).
Although Benzema has had 20 shots on goal, only two of them ended up in the back of the net (one in the return leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona, and the other in LaLiga against Getafe).
Tottenham misses have brought pressure
Benzema missed two clear opportunities in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Tuesday evening, which incurred the wrath of former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker, who took to Twitter to call Benzema ‘overrated’. Despite his profligacy, Benzema remains the undisputed first-choice striker.
