Málaga can't even win in the Copa del Rey against a mid-table side from Segunda. In fact, in the end, they couldn't even draw against Numancia.
Michel's crisis struck side had been leading for 74 minutes, looking like finally landing their first win of the season. But Nacho grabbed a scrambled goal deep into time added on for the home side, before, incredibly, right on the final whistle, Escassi scored to send the Los Pajaritos stadium into delirious, wild, delight.
Michel enraged at Numancia's late win
Michel was left bewildered, gesticulating lamely at his back-line from the dug-out. He later said he was livid with his players. "My future's not important, but I'm exasperated and angry. When you go out as a footballer you need to know what's going on. The game was won in the 92nd minute".
The under-fire Málaga coach continued: "We need to demand a lot more of some of our players. I'm not justifying anything, or my work. I take responsibility, but I'll be telling them personally what needs to be said. I don't know if it's an attitude problem, or some of the players are stressed, or lacking quality, or we've put them out there as top-flight players and it seems they aren't.
Málaga in a dire position
Málaga are bottom of the Primera, having drawn one game (a three all draw against Athletic) and lost eight. They've scored a meagre four, while their porous defence has shipped 20. Tonight was meant to be the night a fairly easy Copa game allowed them to turn things around... instead they just dug the hole even deeper.
