AC Milan 0-2 Juventus: match report

Is this the end of the line for Milan coach Montella?

A blunt performance from his side at a packed San Siro may be the final straw for the new owners of the Milanese giants, who desperately need to secure a Champions League place for their side to off-set the financial loan deals placed to finance the new look 2017/18 Rossoneri.

Things could have been so different had Kalinic scored on the stroke of half-time as he lashed his shot against Gigi Buffon's crossbar when it appeared easier to hit the target.

It was the only clear-cut chance that the men in red and black carved out all night and as the match transpired the lack of cutting edge and creative thrust from the Milanese outfit became glaring.

The outcome of the contest was decided by Gonzalo Higuain who fired home both goal 100 and 101 in Serie A to see "The Old Lady" top the Serie A standings, albeit momentarily as both Napoli and Inter are in action on Sunday.

A disciplined, solid, accomplished and professional performance from Allegri's men with more question marks rather than answers beckoning for Milan.

AC Milan vs Juventus: Serie A match preview

AC Milan and Juventus get Serie A week 11 underway in a glamour clash that is the undoubted pick of the weekend's Italian top flight fixtures.

AC Milan

Big-spending AC Milan have so far comprehensively failed to live up to expectations in 2017/18, leading to major question marks over the future of head coach Vincenzo Montella.

On Wednesday, however, Milan did manage to end a month-long, four-game winless streak - which had included a late defeat to city rivals Inter Milan - by thumping Chievo 4-1.

That win, sealed courtesy of strikes by Suso, Hasan Calhanoglu and Nikola Kalinic (plus a Bostjan Cesar own goal), moved the Rossoneri up to eighth in the table, but they remain a full nine points off the Champions League spots.

AC Milan's coach Vincenzo Montella

The major team news is that Milan will be without Leonardo Bonucci, who joined from Juve in the summer, as the defender is serving a two-match ban for his sending-off in last weekend's 0-0 draw at Genoa.

Juventus

Juventus have lifted the last six Serie A titles, but head to the San Siro third in the table and facing a stiff challenge to their designs on making it seven in a row.

The Bianconeri trail leaders Napoli by three points and - with the Partenopei at home to 15th-placed Sassuolo this weekend - are likely to need a victory in Milan to avoid slipping further behind.

Like Milan, Juve also won 4-1 in midweek, with goals by Federico Bernadeschi, Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuaín and Juan Cuadrado seeing them sweep past newly-promoted SPAL in Turin.

"Juventus-Milan is always a game of great charm and we go to San Siro to play a nice match and take the three points," said Vecchia Signora coach Massimiliano Allegri on Friday.

Juventus' Italian coach Massimiliano Allegri

"They [Milan] are a little bit down in the standings, but they'll challenge for the top four by the end of the season."
