Rafael van der Vaart's Danish adventure is at an end. The midfielder is set to quit Midtjylland months before his loan agreement is due to expire and with Betis still paying a 40 per cent slice of his wages until the loan finishes in June next year. Poor form and niggling injuries haven't helped Van der Vaart, who has not played a single minute of competitive football since the new season started.
Van der Vaart eyeing move to Esbjerg
The 34-year-old now has to find another club to keep his career chugging along. "I could just stop and pack it all in, but I'm a football lover and while my body allows me to, I want to keep playing", he told RTL before admitting that he is in talks with Second tier outfit Esbjerg fB; such a move would suit him down to the ground as his girlfriend, Estavana Polman plays for the local handball side Team Esbjerg.
However Esbjerg Director of Sport Ted van Leeuwen was cautious when probed on the matter by BT: "All I know is that he still has not rescinded his contract with Midtjylland and that technically, he is still a Betis player. We've only spoken about his present career and what he's been going through. We haven't spoken about him coming here".
