Ander Herrera's potential move to Atlético Madrid is not quite as cut-and-dried as it first appeared. As AS reported on Friday, an agreement of terms between Atlético, the player and Manchester United was close to completion, but a number of obstacles must be sorted out before the move can go ahead.
According to certain corners of the English press, Mourinho is pressuring the Spanish midfielder to renew his contract with the club (he is out of contract in June 2018), with the Daily Star claiming that the Red Devils could trigger an extension Herrera's contract, thereby keeping him at Old Trafford.
Free to move
However, no information of that particular clause appears in the aforementioned newspaper. It is now common knowledge that the 28-year-old is one of Simeone's priority signings when Atlético's transfer ban is lifted in January, and Herrara could be free to enter into talks with any club from 1 January if United decide not to act.
