Besiktas defender Pepe has made former Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo the latest target of the Turkish club's #ComeToBesiktas social-media campaign, admitting: "I'd love it if he joined".
#ComeToBesiktas: Turkish club's hashtag a Twitter sensation
The Super Lig outfit took Twitter by storm with the hashtag during the summer, using it alongside inventive videos announcing close-season signings such as their August deal for striker Álvaro Negredo:
Winger Ricardo Quaresma, in his second spell at the Turks since returning in 2015, can be seen on the phone telling Pepe to "come to Besiktas", with the centre-back - who joined in July - in turn calling fellow new recruit Negredo with the same plea.
Pepe on Cristiano to Besiktas: "If it were possible..."
And in an interview with the club's in-house TV channel this week, Pepe was asked which other footballers he'd like to make the call to, replying: "Of course, I'd like Cristiano Ronaldo to be here."
"He's a person I have total respect for," he said of his Portugal colleague. "He's a friend and an extremely important person for me. If it were possible for it to happen, of course I'd love him to join Besiktas.
"Off the field, Cristiano is an extremely normal person. When I see them talking about him in the media, I think: 'That's impossible, that's a lie'."
Pepe, who has made 16 appearances for Besiktas since moving from Real, added: "People don't know the real Cristiano. He's a normal guy with normal habits like us.
"He loves his family and his kids and, for him, being a father is really important."
