The 47-year-old coach left Cruz Azul on Monday, and after spending time with his family in Galicia, he has decided not to take over at either of the LaLiga strugglers.

Often, the best way to resolve a conundrum is to sit down and talk it through with family. Having spent time with his nearest and dearest in La Coruña, Paco Jémez has taken the decision to turn down approaches from Alavés and Las Palmas. The former Rayo Vallecano coach will take a break from football until 2018.

Alavés and Las Palmas went all out for Jémez

Jémez was close to agreeing a deal at Alavés until the end of the season, which would have been worth €3 million before tax. Las Palmas pulled out all the stops to bring him to back to Gran Canaria, where he was born. The club president even flew to La Coruña in an attempt to convince Jémez in person.

Both teams are languishing in the LaLiga relegation zone: Alavés prop up the table with six points, while Las Palmas are in 18th with seven.

Time for a break after Cruz Azul

The 47-year-old left Cruz Azul on Monday after agreeing not to extend his stay at the Mexican club.

Alavés will pursue Abelardo Fernández as a ‘Plan B’. The former Sporting coach ended his playing career at Mendizorroza in 2003.
