The directors at Real Madrid saw something in Theo Hernandez that was enough to see them break the non-aggression pact between them and cross-city rivals, Atlético Madrid. They paid close to €30 million for the left-back's services. The 20-year-old has not gotten off to a great start at his new club with worse numbers to Fabio Coentrao in his first season.
To start, Coentrao was a starter in 69% of the games he played under Jose Mourinho when he first arrived. Theo is currently starting in just 50% of the games he is playing. Coentrao finished the season with 2,218 minutes under his best - 42% of the available gametime. Theo is just clocking in at 25% of the official gametime with Marcelo keeping the position all for himself.
Theo VS Coentrao
|42%||% of total minutes||25%|
|69%||% of times as starter||50%|
|8||Games with a clean sheet||2|
|96’||Concede a goal every X amount of minutes||133’|
|24%||% of times the goalkeeper was tested||20%|
|15||Minutes per steal||19|
|51’||Foul every X amount of minutes||76’|
|29||Bad pass every X amount of minutes||12|
Coentrao recovered a ball every 15 minutes and Hernandez is winning it back every 19 minutes. Hernandez is also a worse passer so far and gives a bad pass once every 12 minutes comapred to coentrao's every 29 minutes. The French defender is scoring more often and makes fewer fouls but given how Coentrao's time went at the club, it might be a worrying sign and the comparison is not favourable.
