A judge in Argentina has ordered Lionel Messi's older brother, Matías Horacio Messi, into preventative detention for the "illegal possession of a firearm".
The Argentine will remain at Sanatorio Parque de Rosario until December 23rd where he is recovering after an accident on his boat near Rosario.
An agreement was reached for Messi to serve pre-trial detention with the penalty for the crime he is being accused of ranging from three and a half to eight and a half years. The defense may request that he be moved after he has recovered.
The brother of the Argentina and Barcelona soccer star was arrested after a .380 caliber weapon was found on a boat with significant bloodstains on it. A sample of the blood has been taken for tests to find out who it belongs to and it is unclear at present as to what the nature of the accident was.
