16 points adrift! The odds are stacking up against Real Madrid although I imagine they will win their game in hand against Leganés and for argument's sake let's suppose too that they get a win over Barça at Camp Nou, that still leaves Zidane's men 10 points behind in the title race. The battle to retain the league title is as good as over for Madrid and the first to be aware of this are the players. The difference between both sides last night in terms of intensity was blatant with the Vigo side led by Aspas playing with zest and passion and during the course of the night contrived to hit the post and miss a penalty. A slight blip on the part of Aspas who is normally lethal from 12 yards having bagged eleven from eleven recently from the spot. Looking at things benevolently, Madrid should be grateful to have secured a point.
One of the few bright points from a Real Madrid perspective was a fine performance from Gareth Bale as he availed of the space left for him by the Celta rear-guard and benefited from Benzema's absence in a 4-4-2 formation. Celta took the lead but were soon trailing the contest with fine creative play from both Toni Kroos and Isco. It's apparent that Real Madrid are not in the title race but Gareth Bale could have a major role in the club's aspirations to retain their Champions League crown. He looked to be in great shape and appeared to have overcome the anxiety of another injury relapse and was on target on two occasions to ensure a share of the spoils at Balaidos.
A night to forget for Cristiano
To be frank Bale was the only attacking threat that Madrid offered as Cristiano had a night he'll soon want to forget. He looked sluggish and on the few occasions when he found himself in a position to create danger failed to finalise the move. Apart from the Welsh international's performance there was little else to generate enthusiasm for a Madrid fan with the exception being Keylor's fine penalty stop. It was his way of thanking Zidane after his comment stating that the club didn't need another goalkeeper. I was worried about certain passages of Marcelo's play who looks great at times going forward but somewhat negligent in his defensive duties.
