Karim Benzema is coming to the end of his personalized training programme and today, returned to work with the ball which hints that he will soon be back with the first team. According to Real Madrid's medical release, the French striker suffered an injury to his right hamstring in El Clásico against FC Barcelona - just before he flew to Dubai to spend his Christmas holidays when he seems apparently fit and healthy...
Benzema's mysterious injury
Benzema's absence from training after the Christmas break came as a suprise to everyone. He returned on 5 January and has only returned to work with the ball today. In the meantime, he had been working apart from the group with club physios and was estimated to be out for between two to three weeks.
His injury meant that Zidane has been unable to field his Bale-Benzema-Cristiano attack during the New Year. Apart from the odd suspension, Cristiano has been available for most of the season, while Bale and Benzema have been flitting in and out of the side with constant injury problems.
