The NBA are pushing for a removal of betting laws in the United States with the league netting a potential 1% of every bet, according to a report on ESPN by Brian Windhorst.
It is a move that could open the door for huge revenues for the NBA along with other sports in America. Dan Spillane, an NBA attorney, testified in front a senate committee and "for the first time made it clear what the league's price would be to become a partner in legalizing the multibillion-dollar industry," according to the report by Windhorst.
The league are also pushing for bettings options on smart phones and not just at racetracks and casinos.
The same report also attribute quotes to Spillane during the statement to lawmakers: "We have studied these issues at length. Our conclusion is that the time has come for a different approach that gives sports fans a safe and legal way to wager on sporting events while protecting the integrity of the underlying competitions."
