Wolves trigger clause to buy Atlético loanee Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota celebra un gol con el Wolverhampton.

The Championship leaders exercise their option to buy the Portuguese winger from parent club Atlético. Jota has scored 12 goals in 31 games during his loan spell.

Wolves have confirmed that they will exercise their option to buy Diogo Jota which was included in a clause in their loan agreement with Atlético Madrid. The Portuguese winger has played a pivotal role for Nuno's team who are striding away at the top of the Championship table with a 12 point advantage over nearest rivals Derby County. Jota has contributed 12 goals in 31 games

Diogo Jota's instant impact at Molineux

Jota joined Atlético in a 7.2 million euro deal from Paços de Ferreira in the summer of 2016, after impressing with the Portuguese top flight outfit, netting 14 goals in 35 games - in spite of his position as a winger. After completing the pre-season with Atleti, and scoring in the summer friendly against Crotone, he returned to his homeland to join Nuno's Porto on loan. During his brief spell with Porto, he netted 9 times in 38 games.

Wolves' long-term investment in Jota

When Nuno took the coaching post at Wolves in May last year, he petitioned the Midlanders to bring Jota in for the team's quest to return to the Premier League. The 21-year-old instantly gained a place in the side, making 29 starts. His excellent performances have prompted the club to pay up the purchase option five months before the loan deal is due to end. Wolves have not officially disclosed the fee they have paid Atlético to buy Diogo Jota outright, but it is believed to be more than the transfer fee which the Spanish club origibally paid for the player 18 months ago. The Portuguese winger moves without having played a single, official game for Atleti.
