The Asturian coach is the main candidate to take over from Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are not willing to match his Barcelona wage.

Luis Enrique's position as the main candidate to succeed Antonio Conte at Chelsea is precarious due to the coach's high wage demands.

Enrique's Barcelona contract dwarfed that of Conte

According to The Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are not willing to match the €18.75 million-per-year salary that Luis Enrique earned at Barcelona. That is more than Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola earn at Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.

Current Chelsea coach Antonio Conte.

It is also significantly higher than the €10.8 million-per-year contract that Chelsea handed Antonio Conte after winning the Premier League last season. When Conte initially took over at Stamford Bridge in 2016, his wage was 'only' €7.4 million per year.

Thomas Tuchel, who is without a club after leaving Borussia Dortmund, and Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri are also in the frame behind Luis Enrique.
