Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane admitted that Eibar were the better side but was pleased at how his team responded to snatch a 1-2 win at Ipurua: "When things are going your way, you need character and we showed that today".
Madrid given a run for their money
Eibar made Madrid suffer: “A lot.. from the first minute to the end. We didn't play a good game technically, but we were up against a great adversary. We can feel happy with how it turned out”.
Madrid's first touch let them down: “Technically, we were poor in a lot of ways when conducting the ball out. But we showed other qualities - such as character, determination…”
Satisfaction to come away with three points: “Eibar were the better team - particularly in the first half. During the first few minutes we practically didn't get past the halfway line, but we can't complain about the result, it's a good one for us”.
Modric: “He's been out of the side for 20 days and he did well today. He's a very important player for us. He never gets nervous, no matter how difficult a game is. I didn't want him to play the whole game but he did in the end”.
Why did Ramos leave the field halway through the second half? “He shat himself”.
Cristiano made the difference on the day... “For me, he's from another galaxy. What he does, is always very positive for us; he knows he is going to score. And when he's scored two goals, he wants three… He is a different player, a special player. His figures speak for themselves. We have to give credit to the team we were up against too. We were struggling with our game but we all know what Cristiano can give us, with just a few chances he can score a lot of goals”.
