The Catalan referee Xavier Estrada Fernández will be in charge of the Liga game between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid of matchday 31, on Sunday, April 8 at 16.15 (CEST). This was confirmed on Wednesday by the Spanish Technical Committee of Referees (CTA).
Big wins and adios to the Calderón
An international referee since 2013, Estrada Fernández (born 1976) whistled in recent comfortable wins in the league for both rivals. Los Blancos enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Alavés and the Rojiblancos destroyed Leganés by the same scoreline overseen by the Catalan. He was also in the middle for the second leg of the semi-final of the Copa del Rey when Sevilla beat Leganés by two goals to nil.
Other notable games for Estrada Fernández were the Valencia 1-4 Real Madrid game in January, the debut of Atlético in the Copa against Elche (1-1) and the poignant farewell to the Vicente Calderón stadium in the last game of the 2016/17 season when the home side celebrated a 3-1 win over Athletic Club.
