After signing for Manchester United in 2015 for 60 million euros - plus significant variables - it appears that the French forward, Anthony Martial is now looking towards the Old Trafford exit door.
Martial attracting Atleti, Spurs, Juve
According to reports from Radio Monte Carlo, the former Monaco player has rejected a first offer to extend his contract in Manchester. The report states that Martial is looking for an alternative club this summer rather than staying longer as a bit-part player under José Mourinho. The 22-year old's current contract runs until 2019 with the option of an additional season built in.
Among the interested teams, say RMC, are Juventus and Tottenham, as well as Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid. The player's agent has apparently already been contacted by several clubs to check out the current situation. This may be unsurprising as this season, despite limited action, he has scored 11 goals and has contributed 10 assists for teammates. Although generally playing as a typical number nine at Monaco, he has shone when on the left wing at United with some claims that a more attacking style of play would suit him better.
With the arrival of Alexis Sánchez, the French youngster is losing pitch time and in the most recent two Premier League games Mourinho chose not to use him at all, arguably justified as they overcame Swansea and then an albeit-weakened Manchester City.
France still calling on Martial
These decisions have reportedly left Anthony feeling unimportant to this Manchester United side which, going on previous transfer windows, is only likely to mean further high-profile names being added to the line-up. The good news for Martial is that even given this situation, it seems French national team coach Didier Deschamps is counting on him to be part of his travelling squad to Russia.
