Keylor Navas: Did not help his case at Real Madrid with the third goal, in particular, looking like something from an amateur game. Made a couple of decent saves and couldn't do anything with the first but might have done better with Mandzukic's first also.
Carvajal: Very solid defensively as usual. Drove forward from the right on several occasions and battled with Mandzukic well. Ball hit his back for the second goal but was matched with a much taller player and had no discernible chance.
Varane: This was his big day. In the absence of Ramos, he had to put in a leader's performance and he did just that. Tried to coax Vallejo and cover for him and also do his own. Hit the crossbar with a header at the end of the first half. Also missed near the end. An excellent performance.
Vallejo: Champions League debut and seemed tense throughout. He did seem looser as the game progressed and the experience will do him good but his inexperience was on display on several occasions during this one.
Marcelo: Started off poorly and hardly did much better as it progressed despite his best effort. Both first half goals came from his side and Douglas Costa gave him lots of problems throughout. Very poor.
Casemiro: Subsituted at half-time. Surprising as he was his usual self cutting off several Juve attacks. Joined in at the back too when necessary becoming a third central defender.
Modric: Dynamic. Started all of Real Madrid's attacks but the Khedira-Pjanic-Matuidi axis cut off space for him. Played well along with Kroos as they threw it around the middle. Mixed it up well with Bale and Ronaldo too as he looked for the deep ball on the left-hand side. Substitued for Kovacic with 15 minutes to go.
Kroos: The only one who seemed involved from the very first minute. Fell into the trap set by Juve's midfield but still manage to control the middle although not with the usual effectiveness he shows.
Isco: Much quicker and more lively defending counters, possibly as an instruction from Zidane, due to his usual approach to defending. Lost the ball on occasion when he shoudn't. Scored an offside goal and had another good shot in the second half.
Cristino: The hero for Real Madrid. Played his 150th Champions League game and tried and tried to make something happen for his side. Dived a few times in the box for non-existent penalties but got it in the end. Had the most shots and looked most dangerous for the home side.
Bale: Surprise inclusion in the starting eleven having not played against PSG or Juventus in the first leg. Did very little work and was substitued at the break. Nearly scored after nine minutes with a backheel. Helped Carvajal on the right and worked on the counter but little else to say. Disconnected.
Asensio: Introduced at the break but didn't make an impact. Played on both sides with no luck.
Vazquez: Another introduction at the break but didn't have much to do either. The hero of the night for winning the penalty off Benatia in the last minute of the game.
Kovacic: Replaced Modric, and played in the middle of the field. Helped Kroos to assert control but didn't do much in his cameo.
