Diego Godín chatted to Radio Rincón and Cadena Celeste and one of the talking points was the subject of Antoine Griezmann's future plans, Atlético de Madrid's star player is a close friend of Godín's but as for the rumours on the Frenchman's future, with rumours linking him to Barcelona, the Uruguyan centre-back said: "We don't know, we've got no idea - I don't even think he knows. We're hoping he'll with us for a long time to come. He's under contract with Atlético de Madrid and hopefully he will continue developing here with us, and bringing us lots of happiness".
Griezmann, honorary Uruguayan
According to Atlético's second captain, Griezmann has an affinity with Uruguay and completely identifies with and understands the spirit of the South American country. ”He even says he is Uruguayan. He's always been surrounded by Uruguayan players. He made his debut under Martín Lasarte, who he has a great respect for. He likes the way we are, our habits and little ways and he loves eating a good slap-up roast, and also Uruguyan music - he even drinks more mate that I do!"
Griezmann said after the Europa League semi-final first leg: "We've been talking to the club to see what we can do". His contract with Atlético runs until June 2022, but his relatively low buy-out clause of just 100 million euros has put several big European clubs on red alert.
