Real Madrid have competition for Neymar. If anyone thought Los Blancos would be the only club seeking his signature, they were mistaken.
United willing to match Neymar's PSG wages
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are not only eager to sign the PSG star, they have already told him that they will place a bid if he decides to leave France.
United have reportedly been in contact with Neymar’s inner circle to inform him that they are willing to break the world transfer record to bring him to Manchester. The Premier League club would match the wage he currently earns in Paris, which is around €34 million.
United are prepared to open the bidding at €227m, €5m more than PSG paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona last summer. Those upstairs at Old Trafford acknowledge that this may be insufficient, in which case United would incrementally increase the offer.
Neymar Senior the key
The Mirror adds that United will look to Neymar’s father to facilitate the move. Neymar Senior is apparently a United fan and enjoys a good working relationship with the club.
Real Madrid had already made tentative contact with those close to the player, and it is understood that Neymar Senior tasked Pini Zahavi, a well-known intermediary, with sealing his son’s path from Paris to Madrid.
Yet news of Manchester United’s interest could complicate an already complicated operation. As for Neymar himself, he is expected to resume training with the ball on Sunday after several weeks out with a broken metatarsal. The 26-year-old ostensibly offered an olive branch to PSG supporters upon his return to the French capital, but with two horses now in the race to sign him, his future there appears more precarious than ever.
