The Russian has owned Chelsea since 2003 but never earned residence status and his visa has not been renewed according to the Financial Times.

On Saturday, Chelsea won the FA Cup thanks to an Eden Hazard goal from the penalty spot. Roman Abramovich could not attend, however, according to a report in the Financial Times. The Chelsea owner could not get his visa renewed in the United Kingdom according to the same report.

Two people close to Abramovich have confirmed to the U.S publication that the UK would not renew the Russian billionaire's visa due to rising tensions between Russia.

The FT report says - via Eurosport: "The Kremlin-connected, London-based Mr Abramovich — who, with a net worth of £9.3bn, is Britain’s 13th-richest man according to the Sunday Times — has returned to Russia after his investor visa ran out, according to two people close to him. UK authorities have yet to renew Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich’s visa after it expired last month, three people close to the billionaire have told the FT, as geopolitical tensions rise between Moscow and the west."

The 51-year-old has been the owner of the club since 2003 but never gained residence status. Under Abramovich, Chelsea have seen their club rise to the top of European football with a Champions League victory in 2012 being the apex of his spell.
