Inter Milan's Argentinean striker Mauro Icardi has spoken about his future, admitting that he has yet to sit down to discuss his future with the board. However, it seems likely he will stay on at the Italian club now that they have achieved this season's objective of qualifying for the Champions League.
This means a move to the Bernabéu looks less likely, although Real Madrid's interest in the Inter captain has waned in recent months. Meanwhile, Argentinean coach Jorge Sampaoli has not selected Icardi in his squad to compete at the World Cup in Russia.
Icardi doesn't rule out move away from Inter Milan
Icardi has said he that will be happy to renew his contract but hasn't completely ruled out an exit from Milan. If he does stay however, he has asked that new signings be made to stregnthen the Italian side for next season's campaign.
Icardi Quotes on Champions League, Inter and New Signings
On the Champions League: "My goal was to reach the Champions League and now that we have achieved that, the future starts from here"
On negotiations with Inter: "I will meet with the club and I will do my best for Inter. But I have reformed my house in Milan. It's a sign ... I'm Inter's biggest fan, but I have two months to sit down with the club and talk about what's best for me: if it's Inter, I'll be very happy to stay, if it's somewhere else, I'll weigh that up"
On Inter's performance: "Starting next season, we have to continue to improve. A team like ours cannot allow itself to suffer the ups and downs we had last season. Only then can we fight for something bigger. We have to increase the high-level performances and cut out low-level performances."
On new signings: "Reinforcements in the transfer market? Surely there will be possibilities. The club will try to do well, as it did this year. The base is already good, but if there are new arrivals, we will welcome them with open arms."
