Ramos: "Barça's double? The Champions League eclipses that"
Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, spoke in depth about the Champions League final and the criticism they recieved during the year.
Sergio Ramos spoke to 'El Partidazo de Cope' to preview the Champions League final.
Nervous ahead of the final: "The day we don't feel worried about the final is the day we need to be worried. We have a lot of drive to show and claim it again. It is a unique opportunity to becomes legends."
Are Real Madrid better now? "It's good to be convinced that we are better than them. This year we have overcome challenges, but Liverpool, despite the fact that people talk about the individual talent of Firmino and Salah, are dangerous as a unit too. They have a manager who knows how to get the most out of them."
Hunger for titles: "I don't think they can have more hunger than us. One of the keys to this team is to maintain that enthusiasm. We don't look back at what we've done. I have the same drive. I look at this game like it's the first Champions League. The key to success is to not getting tired of winning and on Saturday, we'll see. Saturday we will leave our souls out there."
Real Madrid as favourites: "As much as they speak about us being favourites, that Liverpool have many who have never played in a final, that they have player who have not won the Champions League. That will not take us away from our objective, which is to win the Champions League."
Goalscorer in finals: "The goal for the 10th meant a lot. It was a reward for my career. Atlético were already lifting the trophy and the kitmen were coming out of the dressing room with the t-shirts and with the champagne. It was an historic satisfactiob. It is the goal of my life. But I will be sincere, I prefer not to score and win the Champions League. If you play football, you have to think more about the collective than individual, if not I would have dedicated myself to tennis."
Support in the final: "I took 32 people to Kiec. We had to take another plane the day for the game and I have 23 people; the other nine will go the day before. The don't get tired and they keep the hope of winning the Champions League and me, I feel better knowing that they are there. What they give me on an emotional level is priceless."
Starting eleven in Kiev: "There are players that have doubts over whether they will play or not. It has always happened in the history of football, but the good thing is everyone has had minutes and they arrive very plugged in. I think that Zidane is going to have doubts about the eleven until the last minute. Zizou is very unpredictable, he could play anyone."
BBC: "With the BBC, we have played better and other times worse. They are many circumstances that interfere. Like the opponent, the tactical system..."
Cristiano: "Cristiano is possibly the most important player to have passed through Real Madrid and I think that he needs different treatment. Maybe in other years he looked for other things but these years he has put an emphasis at a collective level. We have seen the results and we are very proud of what he has done."
Possible signing of Neymar: "We will have time to talk about Neymar. All of the best have been here on a world scale and there is always room for these types of players, and like that the door is open. Football is like a ferris wheel, up and down and in a second anything can happen."
Critics: "We know how to live with the praise and the criticism. We knew that we were going to compete in the Champions League. We have shown that despite the opponents in front of us. All of them were favourites before Real Madrid, we have been shutting mouths with what we have done on the field. We have many jumping ship when we lost the league to Barça. On occasion, we had people criticising us a lot. There are people who jump on the ship only when they see Cibeles fountain 100 metres away. We like to fill the boat with Spartans that are there in the bad times. In the good times, it's very easy."
Double of Champions League: "If Madrid win the Champions League, it will eclipse them a bit. Barça have had a great season and they deserve those two titles but if your direct rival wins the Champions League, things change."
