Liverpool physiotherapist Rubén Pons explained that the Egypt international will postpone Ramadan for two days and observe the days missed of the Holy month later.

Liverpool physiotherapist Rubén Pons is in charge of looking after the well-being of Mohamed Salah. He knows the day-to-day routine of the Egyptian star and knows that Salah could play an important role in tomorrow's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Reds focusing on their game

Pons spoke to Cadena SER programme El Larguero about the final and feels that being tagged as the favourites could work against Real Madrid: "We're high on hope. Playing against Real Madrid the team who have been champions for the past two years running and who are used to these kinds of big games could be a handicap but they might see themselves as favourites while we will just be going out to play our game. But it's a final, it's one game and anything can happen", Pons explained.

Religious duties

During the run-up to the final, there has been much discussion as to whether Mohamed Salah could be affected by observing Ramadan when he will be fasting during daylight hours. Both Liverpool and Real Madrid respect all religions and Salah will not be the only player in Kiev observing the Holy month of Ramadan which began on 17 May - Sadio Mané, Emre Can and Achraf Hakimi (Karim Benzema opts to postpone fasting during the month of Ramadan until the close season). Pons revealed that Salah will also be permitted to temporarily opt out for a couple of days, which he will then make up for at a later date: "Before the team's mini-break in Marbella the nutritionist drew up a work plan for Mohamed. Tomorrow, the following day and the day of the final he will not observe fasting so he won't be affected".

Salah is full of hope

Rubén Pons enjoys a close working relationship with the player and will be travelling with him to next month's World Cup finals. He told Onda Cero's El Transistor programme how he started working as Salah's physio: "Mohamed had a couple of fitness problems - quite minor ones but I suggested that he try my dry needling technique, and since then he's been delighted to see his problems go. "Salah is in fine shape - physically and mentally; he's hopeful, as all the players are, that Liverpool can win the final". He added that Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has total faith in the Egyptian: "Klopp is a very intelligent guy, he's very demanding in everything he does, and there is a meaning behind everything he asks the players to do".
