Monaco midfielder Fabinho, who has been linked with a summer move to Atlético Madrid, has set the rumour mill rolling after his wife posted photographs of the couple in the Spanish capital over the weekend.
A few months ago Fabinho, 24, confirmed that 2017-18 will be his last season at the Stade Louis II and stated that a move to the Metropolitano “is a possibility.” This week, Monaco president Vadim Vasilyev said that Diego Simeone remains keen on the Brazilian but warned that Atlético “are not the only club that have shown an interest.”
Diego Simeone a long-term admirer of Fabinho
Fabinho has been on Atlético’s wish-list for some time and the Madrid-based club were prepared to go toe-to-toe with PSG for the midfielder last summer, before the imposition of a Fifa-imposed transfer ban prevented Atlético from registering new players until last January.
However, with Simeone looking for midfield reinforcements in the summer with the prospect not only of the European Super Cup against Real Madrid coming up but also the challenge of reaching the Champions League final next season in Atlético’s home stadium to consider, the Argentinean is eager to finalise his squad for 2018-19 as quickly as possible and to steal a march on Europe’s other heavyweight clubs for the in-demand Brazilian.
Fabinho's wife, Rebeca Tavares, plays for AS Monaco's women's team and rumours are also abound that she is set to sign a deal with Atlético Femenino to join her husband at the club next season.
