Emilio Butragueño sent the Scottish club a letter on behalf of Real Madrid to send condolences for the passing of ex-player Neale Cooper.

Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño sent Aberdeen a heartfelt letter of condolence on hearing the news that Neale Cooper, one of the Scottish club's legendary players, passed away aged 54 earlier this week. Cooper was part of Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen side which beat Real Madrid to lift the European Cup Winners' Cup at the Ullevi in Gothenburg in 1983.

Butragueño's letter read: "We are deeply saddened after hearing what happened yesterday to Neale Cooper. We are profoundly affected by this tragedy and stand with you at this difficult moment.

On behalf of our president Florentino Pérez and everyone at Real Madrid, we would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Neale Cooper. He will always be in our thoughts".

The gesture was appreciated in Scotland and ackowledged by Aberdeen who responded: "As messages of condolence continue to flood in from around the world following the death of Neale Cooper, the club today received this letter from our friends at Real Madrid".
