The Juventus goalkeeper was sent off following his heated protest at referee Michael Oliver over a stoppage-time penalty awarded to Real Madrid.

The Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has imposed a three-match ban on goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who was sent off in the second leg of Juventus’ quarter final tie of the Champions League against Real Madrid.

Buffon was handed a red card for his outburst at referee Michael Oliver, after the English official awarded Real Madrid a stoppage-time penalty for Mehdi Benatia’s push on Lucas Vasquez. The three-match ban imposed on Buffon is punishment for the red card and for his incompliance with UEFA’s general code of conduct.

However, it is still unclear if the 40-year-old will see out the suspension, as he is yet to confirm if he will retire from the game following his departure from Juventus at the end of the season, after 17 years at the club.
