According to L'Equipe, the two clubs have reached a deal for the France international, pending the player's approval, which could prove key to Griezmann's future.

Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco.

L'Equipe reported that both clubs have been in negotiations over the winger and have hammered out a deal in principle for the France international to move to the Metropolitano after the World Cup, pending the approval of the 22-year-old, with Atlético later confirming the move on social media.

The capture of Lemar has been a priority for Atlético, who have been making moves in the market to attract world class players to the club, not least to persuade Antoine Griezmann to extend his stay in Madrid. L’Equipe stated that the deal is in place and only lacking the final fine points on the contract with Lemar expected to set Atlético back a fee in the region of 90 million euros.

Atlético's Lemar pursuit in response to Griezmann impasse

Griezmann has been one of the primary drivers of the move for his international teammates, posting several pictures of the pair on social media. The France striker is yet to commit to Atlético ahead of next season and the club are aware that in order to keep their prized asset they will have to proactive in the summer market.

The addition of Lemar to Rodri, the highly rated Spain under-21 international who formed part of La Roja’s pre-World Cup squad, was a step in the right direction but with Atlético striking a deal for a player who has been attracting interest across Europe, particularly from Arsenal and Barcelona, the board will be more confident of receiving a positive answer from Griezmann regarding his intentions for next season, with the number seven declaring that he will make an announcement before France kick off their World Cup campaign in Russia.
