Portugal and Iran face each other today and both teams will be vying for a place in the second round of the World Cup. It is a historic opportunity for Iran, whose supporters have gone to incredible lengths to try to disrupt Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. before the game.
Last night, a group of Iranian supporters gathered outside the hotel of the Portuguese national team, where they sang and chanted for hours, in order to disrupt the sleep of the Portuguese players. The sounds of drums and vuvuzelas could be heard for hours. And the Iranian fans’ cunning strategy seemed to have had its desired effect, as none other than Ronaldo himself came to his hotel window to ask them to be silent so he could sleep.
The Real Madrid star was recorded making gestures to signify that he was trying to sleep, in a bid to stop the crowd making noise. The Iranian fans will find out this evening if their actions will have had any effect on the performance of the Portuguese team.
