On the same day that Real Madrid commence their new season preparation at their Valdebebas training complex, new head coach Julen Lopetegui analysed his early impressions at the club and spoke of his hopes for the forthcoming campaign affirming that he has inherited a strong squad.
The Basque coach also admitted that returning to Real Madrid was special for him as it's a club he has always considered as a second home stating: "It's a place where I grew up and coming back as head coach is wonderful. I'm back at the best club in the world but I'm aware that it's also the most demanding club in the world. Our focus is now on working hard and being ready for the UEFA Super Cup against Atletico Madrid on August 15th”.
Lopetegui also confirmed that he has a magnificent squad and indicated that there will be small tweaks to the first team squad as the pre-season work evolves. "We have an excellent squad and one that can take on all the challenges that come our way with maximum guarantees". The new coach also acknowledged that coming back to a club he knows well is an added advantage.
