Henry declines €12m Sky offer to fulfill coaching ambitions

Belgium's assistant coach, Thierry Henry has rejected the chance to return to his broadcasting role with Sky and reportedly has had three offers from clubs in England.

Belgium have had the most successful World Cup in their history with their third-place in Russia, and coach Roberto Martinez has played a great part in that success, as has his assistant ex-Barcelona and Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry.

Before joining up with the Belgium setup, Henry had been working as a TV pundit with Sky Sports in Britain. And the Frenchman has rejected Sky’s 12-million-euro offer to return to his TV role next season, in order to focus on his coaching career.

Henry determined to fulfill long-term ambition

“Over the last four years I have had some extremely rewarding coaching experiences in football,” said Henry.

“These experiences have only made me more determined to fulfill my long-term ambition to become a football manager. It is with sadness, therefore, that I have decided that I must leave Sky Sports to enable me to spend more time on the pitch and concentrate on my journey to achieving that goal.”

Mailsport claims that the former French international already has had three offers from clubs in England, one of which is from Championship club, Aston Villa. What is not clear yet is whether Henry will continue in his role as assistant to Martinez with Belgium or seek a managerial position in club football.
