Diego Godin has ignored the reported extravagant advances from Juventus and will remain a huge part of the Atlético Madrid side for the foreseeable future. This is the situation according to reports from Italian news outlet, La Stampa.
Godin to renew with Atlético
The Uruguyan was being courted by the Serie A giants, on the back of their attention-grabbing signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. But the defender has given instructions to his agent, Diego Heredia, to accept the extension deal put forward by the Rojiblancos. His current contract was going to expire in June 2019.
Juventus had offered 32-year-old Godín a three-year contract worth 4.5 million euros per year. The idea of the Bianconera was to tempt the LaLiga club with around 45-50 million euros for his services, a figure they hoped to recoup from Chelsea for their young defender Daniele Rugani. Whether this move will still go through or not is yet to be seen given the developments.
