Those that are already in the Real Madrid fold completed their first week of pre-season with new coach Julen Lopetegui. And the former Spain manager was keen to share his satisfaction with the efforts that had been put in by the squad, one that was still missing several of those involved in the World Cup.
Lopetegui shows Benzema support
His message on Twitter read: "Great work from all the team this week. Time to recharge tomorrow. On Monday, full on once again. Let's go, boys!"
Muy buen trabajo de todo el equipo esta semana. A cargar pilas mañana. El lunes, de nuevo todos juntos a tope. Vamos equipo! pic.twitter.com/jq05CmVoc4— Julen Lopetegui (@julenlopetegui) 21 de julio de 2018
The photo that was chosen to accompany the post caught some attention. In it the players are heading out for training and the coach has his arm affectionately around Karim Benzema. Rumours have been circulating for some weeks that the French striker may be on his way out of the door - a la Cristiano Ronaldo - as part of the new regime at the Bernabéu. And with new reports coming out stating that the player is close to a move to AC Milan, this image may be a timely reminder that Lopetegui, at least for the moment, sees a future in Madrid for his number 9.
