So this is not a one or two-time thing, our young female teams are consistently up there with the best. I like this for two reasons: I like football and I like that football can serve as a platform in the fight for equality.

As I always, when I write about this topic, I deplore the fact that Real Madrid is far behind on this issue. I don’t know why Florentino Perez has such a narrow-minded view. Barcelona invests 3.5 million euros in its women’s team, Atléti around half of that. Instead of Real Madrid blowing money on crappy investments like Lucas Silva or Coentrao, they could invest that money in their female teams, both in football and basketball. That kind of money is not much to the club, but it would go a long way in supporting the female teams for a decade.
Tagged in:Germany national football teamFlorentino PérezLucas SilvaFábio CoentrãoGerman teamNational teamsFC BarcelonaReal MadridAtlético MadridFootballTeamsSportsEuropeMost viewed1ALFREDO RELAÑOThe unexpected resurgence of hooliganism in footballLaws of the gameCan you definitely pass the ball backwards at kick-off?More news
